Re-alignment under NAVSEA...

When we were under NAVSEA SUPSHIP, before the formation of the Regional Maintenance Centers at SCRMC, SERMC, SWRMC and MARMC(now NSSA) in 2005, we had ONE Uniform Position Description (PD) for the roles of Ship Surveyor (Shipbuilding Specialist) GS-1101-12, Project Manager GS-1152-13 and Quality Assurance Inspector GS-1910-12. During the recent Fleet Maintenance Audit (FMA) the auditors commented on the different rates ...more »

Restructure/Re-alignment

Working for the Federal Government is a civil duty and a privilege. I believe management needs to be rotated so not to develop to much control and abuse of power. The Chief of Staff, Senior Business officer, Chief Director and Senior Executive should not be in the same directoriate/location for more than 5-7 years they can be in the same agency but rotate throughout the agency (unless there is need to have them relocated). ...more »

Volunteer Registry Network

I believe there are a lot of people with unique talents in all areas of business that would be glad to pitch in and do whatever they can to help the country, government, community. Why not have a have a website where volunteers can register their location, skills and availability. The site would be a searchable database for the different government agencies to access additional manpower where ever and whenever needed, ...more »

Data set of resources for disabled veterans & military families

Veterans with traumatic brain injury can't navigate the bureaucracy on their own to identify all the support available to them.

Making a data file containing a database of resources for disabled veterans available for download would allow other organizations to create interfaces to the data and services to help disabled veterans.

A similar data set for resources for military families world also be useful.

Supporting the Warfighter through Open Government

Provide a means for the public to contribute to the Department's Open Government Program. This initiative should give the public a means to contribute directly to our men and women in uniform via care packages and messages of support.

Allow DAU Credentials for All

THE PROBLEM: While Defense Acquisition University 9DAU) allows anyone to access its courses, only priority and approved personnel gain credit for its classes. This slows down the training of acquisition recruits, costing taxpayers' money. GENERAL SOLUTION: Allow EVERYONE to gain credit for DAU classes. This gives the opportunity for college students and the unemployed to train before being hired, speeding up training. ...more »

Prepare & Fortify Power Grid for National Security

Prepare & Fortify National Security: for an inevitable Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP), both natural and man made are deemed likely. One man made device over the center of the USA and detonated near 100-200 miles high, will cripple the USA - coast to coast, and most of the urban areas of Canada and Mexico in an instant. It could take decades to repair our way out of such an event. Within two days there would be no food ...more »

Cold War Service Medal

This year marks the 19th year since the collapse of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War. Many lives were lost in America's Longest War, planes and ships attacked, ground troops fired upon. No medal exists to honor these veterans who did much the same jobs as today's military. The NDAA for 2002 contained a provision for a Cold War Medal, but it was denied. Over the last ten years many attempts were made to provide ...more »

Defense contracts as a data file instead of just text

Public information about defense contracts is published as text on:

http://www.defense.gov/Contracts/

It would be useful to have a regularly updated data set with contract information available for download (e.g. project name, project id, vendor/company, cost, link to description, link to earmarks, etc.).

It would make it easier to track costs.

Protect soldier safety by buying American.

We are at the mercy now of foreign countries who manufacture a growing amount of our military goods. For example, many parts of our communications equipment are now manufactured in Taiwan and similar countries. What happens if we find ourselves at odds with that country. They could cripple the military by withholding parts. What could we do if we can not maintain communications? I know that this practice allows for defense ...more »

A site like this one for technical ideas related to defense

For public participation, a site like this one for crowd-sourcing technical ideas related to defense would be useful. There are a lot of combat veterans and civilians who probably have a lot of ideas of what kinds of weapons, equipment and improvements would be useful to have on the ground. Example: Helicopters are used to trim the vegetation around power lines (see video or search for 'helicopter tree trimming' on ...more »
