We are at the mercy now of foreign countries who manufacture a growing amount of our military goods. For example, many parts of our communications equipment are now manufactured in Taiwan and similar countries. What happens if we find ourselves at odds with that country. They could cripple the military by withholding parts. What could we do if we can not maintain communications? I know that this practice allows for defense contractors to see a better profit margin, but it comes at the cost of good paying civilian jobs and the safety of our soldiers. I cannot believe that at this time when we are hyper-vigilant about security, we leave a gaping hole in our defenses. If we could institute a buy American mentality in the people who make decisions on contracts, we could see improved security as well as an improved economy.
