How can our agency encourage two-way conversations with the public to share ideas and expertise to improve our work? What specific tools and strategies should we use to encourage these public conversations?

Re-alignment under NAVSEA...

When we were under NAVSEA SUPSHIP, before the formation of the Regional Maintenance Centers at SCRMC, SERMC, SWRMC and MARMC(now NSSA) in 2005, we had ONE Uniform Position Description (PD) for the roles of Ship Surveyor (Shipbuilding Specialist) GS-1101-12, Project Manager GS-1152-13 and Quality Assurance Inspector GS-1910-12. During the recent Fleet Maintenance Audit (FMA) the auditors commented on the different rates... more »

Plan to enlighten US about CYBERSECURITY

Most people probably think this is a boring topic, but here's a way to reach lots of people. Even if the US people walk away with one thought that's a good step... 1. Go on Oprah, come in with a 15 to 20 minute segment worth of real stories, and what you need the US people to do to help you, and help themselves. 2. Announce on Oprah that you are having another "Ask the CJCS opportunity". 3. Announce that you will... more »

Cold War Service Medal

This year marks the 19th year since the collapse of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War. Many lives were lost in America's Longest War, planes and ships attacked, ground troops fired upon. No medal exists to honor these veterans who did much the same jobs as today's military. The NDAA for 2002 contained a provision for a Cold War Medal, but it was denied. Over the last ten years many attempts were made to provide... more »

A site like this one for technical ideas related to defense

For public participation, a site like this one for crowd-sourcing technical ideas related to defense would be useful. There are a lot of combat veterans and civilians who probably have a lot of ideas of what kinds of weapons, equipment and improvements would be useful to have on the ground. Example: Helicopters are used to trim the vegetation around power lines (see video or search for 'helicopter tree trimming' on... more »

DOD Categories

Here's a list of some of the issues that people have been talking about. Complaints, Documents, Education, Regulations, Information Tech, Defense Contractor Accountability, DOD Video Posts, Data Sets, Veterans & Families, Active Duty Personnel, Safety, Security, Social Media, Design Resources. The list needs to be organized, and added to as needed, in a format that is easy for the general public to read and... more »

War against Terror

DoD; We have remained safe over the last years through nothing other than taking the fight to the enemy. The moment that ceases to occur, rest assured, THEY will take the fight to US. (This is not to patronize the DoD, as you are already well aware of this, it is only noted here for the sake of illustrating the overall point) The American public IS pleased that this war has NOT been abandoned, of that you can be certain.... more »

A cure for Pilots passing out while doing aerial maneuvers

A cure for Pilots passing out while doing aerial maneuvers could be? Decompression Sickness one cure is to equip them with A Helium and Oxygen air tank mixture to breath instead of just a oxygen air tank. Oxygen is (70% NITROGEN) I believe that they are suffering from a form of decompression sickness as the air force pilots are doing these maneuvers. The same as a Scuba diver when they get decompression sickness.... more »

PTSD

The birthplace of PTSD is not only the events that soldiers experience; it is the lack of ability to UNDERSTAND the events AFTER they have occurred. There is no going back, so it is extremely difficult to rationalize an event they had little control over after it has already occurred. Proper training prior to active duty should absolutely include as much time for justifying/rationalizing/explaining what they will experience,... more »

Protection For Soldiers

At the risk of being labeled an "Alfre-doh! (_8(I)" I have to ask this question: How about the military developing a type of force-field generator that creates a magnetic or resonance field around a soldier to either stop or deflect bullets away from the soldier? The more powerful the field the greater stopping power. Maybe a "gravity" field around the soldier that upsets the kinetic-gravitational aspect of a bullet.... more »
