How can our agency encourage two-way conversations with the public to share ideas and expertise to improve our work? What specific tools and strategies should we use to encourage these public conversations?

A cure for Pilots passing out while doing aerial maneuvers

A cure for Pilots passing out while doing aerial maneuvers could be? Decompression Sickness one cure is to equip them with A Helium and Oxygen air tank mixture to breath instead of just a oxygen air tank. Oxygen is (70% NITROGEN) I believe that they are suffering from a form of decompression sickness as the air force pilots are doing these maneuvers. The same as a Scuba diver when they get decompression sickness. ...more »

War against Terror

DoD; We have remained safe over the last years through nothing other than taking the fight to the enemy. The moment that ceases to occur, rest assured, THEY will take the fight to US. (This is not to patronize the DoD, as you are already well aware of this, it is only noted here for the sake of illustrating the overall point) The American public IS pleased that this war has NOT been abandoned, of that you can be certain. ...more »

Irans worlds fastest torpedo

I Share and Idea on 03-18-10 By: Inventor; Mr Todd J Tocco of Schenectady NY The worlds fastest torpedo made in Iran, I seen the footage on the new at around the start of the war. I can tell you how they made it. I used to own a jet boat, and when they turned it on. I could hear the impeller driven motor wine, as it gained in rpms. That's what was their power source, but they would have to have a air-tank ...more »

DoD Promotes Abandoned Product: Windows Vista?

Is it true that DoD forces her agencies to upgrade to Windows Vista instead of keeping using the Windows XP while studying carefully the Windows 7? If it is true, this kind of action is a waste of system resources: human, time, and financing as well as weaken security. The fact is that Microsoft quietly abandons its bad product: the Windows Vista.

Pentagon cutbacks Kudos to Secretary Gates

I am a Master Chief Petty Officer SEAL who is retiring at the end of June this year. I have had a great career and look forward to returning to the private sector. I applaud the Secretary for bringing this issue to light on DOD spending. He is correct in his assessment about the number of Admirals and Generals in the service. A one-star in this military means very little these days, just walk through the Pentagon and ...more »

Collaborate on New Policies and Initiatives

Engage citizens, whether from impacted industries, families, or just in general, when new policies, directives and initiatives are being considered. This could be done via OpenDefense/IdeaScale, wikis, social networks, etc. The purpose of such engagement would be to enhance the quality, breadth and depth of thought that goes into these strategic thrusts, catch issues that might not otherwise be considered, reduce the ...more »

AZ immigration law

We, in civilization, regardless of society, put criminals into jails and prisons. We thus, create a boarder between us and them. These are people that refuse to obey and regard government's established rules, laws and regulations. Apply this concept to the separation of two nations (different laws, maybe a different language). Why thus, are our boarders not more strictly enforced? I praise what Arizona has done and ...more »

PTSD

The birthplace of PTSD is not only the events that soldiers experience; it is the lack of ability to UNDERSTAND the events AFTER they have occurred. There is no going back, so it is extremely difficult to rationalize an event they had little control over after it has already occurred. Proper training prior to active duty should absolutely include as much time for justifying/rationalizing/explaining what they will experience, ...more »

Develop and OpenDefense Social Strategy

Disruptive Technologies: A Holistic, Pragmatic Approach New technologies are emerging at a faster pace than Agencies can swallow. The rate of obsolescence outpaces the pace of change. Despite the new technology flood, Agencies lack a strategy to on-board these disruptions. As a result, they often react, flounder, or simply ignore them. We can solve these problems in four major areas of practice: Leadership ...more »
