Working Together: Governments, Businesses, Non-Profits...

How should we collaborate with individuals, businesses, non-profits, other agencies, or state/local governments? What kinds of prizes/contests should we consider to attract others in working with us? What top problems should we tackle together?

Volunteer Registry Network

I believe there are a lot of people with unique talents in all areas of business that would be glad to pitch in and do whatever they can to help the country, government, community. Why not have a have a website where volunteers can register their location, skills and availability. The site would be a searchable database for the different government agencies to access additional manpower where ever and whenever needed, ...more »

Post Unclassified Contracts via DoD Twitter

CORE IDEA Automatically post all unclassified DoD contracts to Twitter from a DoD Contract account. SPECIFIC SOLUTION Using a free service such as TwitterFeed (http://twitterfeed.com) make this an easy solution to implement. Open Contracting Forum / Post Contractors and Accountability

First of all, all contracts should be open to all potential war contractors and no bid contracts should never be allowed. Secondly, contractors such as Haliburton, should be held accountable for poisoning soldiers and killing soldiers even if it was an accident- your agency hired the worst, most negligent company available. Thirdly, there must be accountability for every dollar spent. I'm recommending for the trillions ...more »

Consolidate Software Networthiness Certification across DoD

All of the military services have some type of IT APL (Approved Products List) and a way to implement non-APL software or systems - usually set forth in a Networthiness Implementation Plan. All of the services are also required to insure that IT products have been certified and accredited. Are the accreditation processes so different that they cannot be consolidated into one Certification at the DoD level? There are ...more »

Don't forget about transforming the culture

This site is filled with great ideas and innovations. However, when building your open government plan, please don't forget about how you're going to transform the culture at DoD. It won't be easy but truly implementing the open government directive calls on government to do more than simply check the box. The development or use of new technology alone does not naturally lead to organization-wide collaboration or communication; ...more »

Grants

If our government officials would make it easier for the everyday working man to get access to our supposed {free} grants instead of having to pay someone to do it for them I believe we would see a lot more helpful technology float to the top, try finding some of these grants and you will find out why people pay other people , for free information, Mr President open your eyes PLEASE!!

RESFOR Defense Travel System (DTS)

RESFOR Defense Travel System is a JOKE! The Command and the individuals in charge have no clear guidance and are wasting money, time, and missions due to their lack of clear direction. This should be a high visibility program within the Reserve Community but as usual our Military leaders had no clue to what really happens on a day to day basis. The problems lie with our leaders and I have no faith in our Military leaders. ...more »

Military missile duty

My husband is an AF active duty missile cop and part of his job is to live in the field for 5 days at a time with only a 3 day break in between. His family hardly gets to see him, so why doesn't he get family seperation pay? We figured it out and he actually has to pay to work this job. He has to pay for his meals out there when he doesn't have a choice to eat anywhere else. So why can't these jobs of a unique nature ...more »

Military interpreters

Hi all , I wonder if anyone thought about some recognition for those who helped to get mission accomplished all over Iraq or in Afghanistan . I believe that the Iraqi interpreters who are already here in USA as immigrants need some kind of a support . I'm not saying that they should get their own GI bill but atleast some financial support like grants to continue their academic life so they might be able to be competitive ...more »

Safety Awareness

I am concerned for the welfare and well being of the citizens of Los Angeles and all over the Western coast of U.S.A. and Mexico in regarding of the "Big One" that will strike California and possibly destroy all of it. It has been widely exaggerated with the movie "2012" and others. I just think that America cannot take any more crisis that will hurt it financially and I think that build supporting foundations on large ...more »
