At the moment the US has no good vehicle for national air defense. The F16 was developed as an dog fighter. It does not carry heavy missiles of the kind to have the power to destroy a large aircraft such as a 747. Destruction is necessary since a crash of such a large body would result in potential devastating damage over any metropolitan area. There is no air superiority fighter in the pipeline either. The variants ...more »
New Ways of Doing Business, New Tools...
LETS START WITH EXAMPLES FIRST http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/xmpp_web.php ************************************************** if you think AJAX changed the web experience, imagine a web with decentralized, open standards-based IM at its center. That's an exciting thought. This post introduces the concepts at issue in accessible terms, discusses some of the possible impacts of such a trend on innovation and ...more »
Please vote to support the Wounded Warrior Program during their period of transition as of 4-25-2010. They are at a pivotal point in history and we must actively assist them to develop programs which will competently and accountably succeed. Our veterans and Country are worth the effort. Wounded Warrior program: 4-25-2010; AP news reports that the DoD has 'scrambled to set up transition units to help wounded troops ...more »
While I understand that even those soldiers with a long time in need to serve in every role, I wonder about the wisdom of sending older, less fit soldiers into combat. My brother is 47 and has one rotation left before he can retire. While he is in good shape compared to the average American, he has a bum knee and IS 47. He's just been assigned to a combat position (after serving as a journalist for years). While I'm ...more »
The article describes using an EEG headset to control a robot remotely over Skype using triggering a reading on the EEG with your mind, facial gestures and head movements. It is similar to a motion capture suit but used for your head instead of body. Used together with a motion capture suit using similar technology (accelerometers and gyros), you could use it to operate a robot with limbs remotely. Used by itself, ...more »
We need to take a hard look at how DoD does business. Look for overlap between services. Capitalize upon platforms that are fundamental to each service to better utilize logistics. For example. 1. Air Force - Responsibility on anything that flies. 2. Navy - Responsible for anything that floats, 3. Army - Responsible for anything that fights on the ground. 4. Marines - Responsible for Special Operations (yes....a whole ...more »
I am not a chemist, but could you make a hat for the war zone press corps that could fluoresce when hit by a laser sight? They'd be hard to duplicate. You could make a pattern to verify the authenticity. They would help decrease errors.
Remember in Desert Storm, we had to mark our vehicles so we wouldn't shoot each other?
Have a good day.
During peaceful conditions, you could train the whales to SLOWLY get away from your naval training routes, by pairing alternate signals to the noise buoys. The whales could learn a "safe" sound and a "danger looms" sound, more easily than we can learn to speak whale! Unconditioned/Conditioned stimuli etc. They are so magnificent, I hope that you try to save them, if you can. I really think that sonar panics them and, ...more »
Secretary Gates was recently quoted as asking the military services to take hard, unsparing looks at how they operate. I work in the financial sector of the Army Corps of Engineers and I can asset that there is great wasteful redundancy in this sector. Millions could be saved if repetitive portions of the financial function were eliminated within the Army Corps of Engineers. All it takes is a leader with the strength ...more »
Topic Focus: Title 10 & Title 50 funds related to IT technical solutions. Collaboration and communications tools are agency/service agnostic. When pots of money for the same needs are split between decision makers in two or more organizations, you're more than likely to have a mess on your hands. Perhaps this is why we have different intelligence agencies not on the same page--our tool sets aren't designed to facilitate ...more »
I work for a large non-profit HMO here in CA, as a lab tech. However I am interested in how technology systems can create effective nuanced communication systems, like this website process. 18 years ago I experienced in a community forum in Marin County the demonstration of a audience response wireless, FM based keypad technology with preparatory software that was designed to catalogue, topics-information, present ...more »
DoD needs to go green and save a bundle of money in the process. Such a huge agency moving away from Outlook and desktop-based software and communications will enable centralized customer support and... SIMPLIFY THE SYSTEM.
There are other things that could be tied in, like MilBook and MilWiki...but adoption will be limited until cloud computing is the norm! Make the switch soon!
